2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Electric Icon

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E continues to redefine what it means to be a Mustang in the era of electrification. Blending classic pony car design language with modern EV technology, this all-electric crossover offers a balance of performance, practicality and innovation. With updated styling cues, improved range, and redefined driving dynamics, the latest Mach-E remains a compelling choice for those seeking an electric crossover with an edge. Even though the Mustang Mach-E isn’t the spiritual successor of the original Mustang, there is no denying that Ford’s approach to electric performance makes the Mach-E stand out in an increasingly competitive segment.

Unlike most modern electric vehicles, the Mustang Mach-E carries the Mustang heritage while keeping its bold and modern design language. The front fascia retains its signature Mustang-inspired elements, with a sculpted hood, aggressive LED headlights, and a closed-off grille that reinforces its electric nature. For 2025, subtle updates to the front bumper and lighting elements give it a sharper, more aggressive stance. The signature tri-bar daytime running lights remain, emphasizing the connection to the original Mustang coupe, while the lower air intakes have been slightly reshaped for improved aerodynamics and cooling efficiency.

Along the side profile, the Mach-E maintains its sleek, coupe-like silhouette, blending SUV practicality with a sporty, fastback-inspired roofline. The lack of conventional door handles adds to its futuristic appeal, with flush-mounted buttons that pop the doors open electronically. The Mach-E’s dimensions remain similar to before, positioning it between a compact and midsize SUV, striking a balance between performance and practicality.

At the rear, the Mustang influence is even more pronounced, with the signature tri-bar LED taillights standing out as a defining feature. A subtle rear spoiler adds a sporty touch, while the rear bumper has been slightly revised for a cleaner look. The absence of exhaust tips serves as a reminder that this Mustang is fully electric, but the bold stance and muscular rear lines ensure it still carries the Mustang spirit.

The interior of the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E continues its modern, yet driver-focused approach, blending a tech-heavy layout with subtle nods to Mustang heritage. The dashboard is clean and minimalistic, anchored by a large vertically oriented touchscreen that controls most vehicle functions. A horizontal trim piece runs across the width of the cabin, subtly mimicking the dual-cowl design found in classic Mustangs.

Unlike some of the competition, the Mach-E comes with a digital gauge cluster that provides key driving information without unnecessary clutter. It also retains just enough physical controls for essential functions like volume, climate and rotary shifter, making it a more user-friendly space for traditional buyers. Build quality in the Mach-E is a step above many mainstream competitors, with soft-touch materials on most surfaces with a mix of synthetic leather and textured plastics. The floating center console provides extra practicality, and the lack of a traditional transmission tunnel frees up a lot of room in the front row.

The massive vertical touchscreen remains the heart of the interior, running Ford’s latest Sync infotainment system. Unlike Tesla’s interface, which eliminates nearly all physical controls, the Mach-E retains a few tactile elements. Screen quality is crisp and responsive, with improved processing power for smoother operation. Wireless smartphone integration is standard, something Tesla still doesn’t provide natively. Also, Ford’s software updates ensure that new features and improvements can be delivered over the air, keeping the system up to date without requiring a visit to the dealership.

In terms of interior space, the Mach-E strikes a balance between sportiness and practicality. The front seats offer plenty of adjustability and support. Our tester was the lower Select trim, for which you can opt for the Comfort package to add a memory feature. The rear seats also provide ample legroom for adults, though the sloping roofline slightly reduces overall headroom for taller passengers. Cargo space is generous but not class-leading, with 822 litres behind the rear seats, which can be expanded to 1690 litres when the rear seats are folded flat. Additionally, the Mach-E features a front trunk with 133 litres of storage, offering extra storage space for smaller items, which is a safer choice for valuable items.

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E continues to offer a variety of drivetrain options, catering to both efficiency-minded drivers and those seeking performance. The lineup includes standard rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configurations, with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, as well as available all-wheel-drive (AWD) models that add a second motor up front for improved traction and acceleration.

Unlike most entries, Ford offers the Mach-E in a few different drivetrain options, including different battery sizes. The standard range 72 kWh battery should work well for most applications, but for those looking for the best range, the Mach-E is also available with the extended-range 91 kWh battery. Even though our tester was the base “Select” trim, it has the eAWD system paired with the extended battery. Both battery packs use liquid cooled lithium-ion technology for optimal efficiency and longevity. The all-wheel-drive model with the extended battery generates 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque.

Charging capabilities are also another strong point for the Mach-E. With DC fast-charging support, the extended range models can replenish up to 130 km of range in just 10 minutes when plugged into a 150 kW fast charger, reaching 10-80% in about 35 minutes. For most people, Level 2 home charging with a 240-volt outlet takes approximately 10 hours for a full charge, making overnight charging the most convenient option for daily use.

Regardless of the trim or battery pack, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E delivers a driving experience that balances everyday comfort with the kind of performance expected from a vehicle wearing the Mustang badge. Thanks to its low center of gravity, courtesy of the underfloor battery pack, the Mach-E feels planted and composed on winding roads. The steering is well-weighted and responsive, offering a direct connection to the road. If you are looking for sharper driving dynamics, there is also the GT trim for the best performance figures. However, even the base “Select” trim is quite competent and communicative with the driver at the limit.

Ford has fine-tuned the Mach-E’s suspension for 2025, offering a smoother ride. I still found the rear suspension a little undersprung, but that only occurs when there is a lot of weight at the back. The standard model prioritizes comfort, absorbing bumps and road imperfections quite well, making it a solid daily driver. Unlike most EVs, Mach-E offers different levels of brake regeneration, including one-pedal driving mode.

On the highway, the Mach-E remains composed and impressively quiet, with minimal wind and road noise even at higher speeds—a testament to Ford’s attention to sound insulation. Without an engine, the cabin is naturally silent, but Ford offers an optional artificial propulsion sound that adds a bit of character to the drive. It can be adjusted or turned off entirely, catering to personal preference.

Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system is available, enhancing long-distance comfort by managing steering, acceleration, and braking on mapped highways. The lane-centering feature works well, keeping the Mach-E steady within its lane, but the subscription model is a drawback. At $2,750 CAD for a three-year plan, BlueCruise feels overpriced, especially considering that it doesn’t offer full self-driving capabilities like some competitors. Ford would be wise to either improve its functionality or make it a standard feature rather than an expensive add-on.

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E remains one of the most well-rounded, yet iconic electric crossovers on the market, offering a compelling mix of performance, tech, and practicality. It successfully blends Mustang-inspired styling with a refined driving experience, delivering strong acceleration, sharp handling, and a comfortable ride. The updated infotainment system, solid build quality, and expanded fast-charging network enhance its everyday usability. However, it still faces stiff competition with a better range, a better charging network, more space, and advanced driver-assist features without a subscription fee. Despite its drawbacks, the Mach-E stands out as a stylish, engaging and practical EV that proves an electric vehicle can carry the Mustang nameplate.
